Questions & Answers
Q: Who is Benetech? A: Benetech is structured through people (experience) and technologies to deliver the safest, lowest cost, program-focused solutions. We offer a full range of products and services relating to the safe storage, transfer and processing of coal, and help plants reduce O&M costs through a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) program. Q: How is Benetech different from any other company that produces and sells dust reduction equipment? A: Benetech provides the latest technology, engineering and operating experience. Our experienced staff of former utility management and operating employees work with utility plant operations to provide the safest environment while optimizing asset protection and plant performance. We own all the technologies, therefore we truly have no bias when making recommendations. Q: How does Benetech help provide support to produce a safe yet peak-performance utility plant? A: Benetech works to determine safety/health concerns, as well as current or emerging vulnerabilities that affect operational integrity within the coal yard. Our Risk Index program identifies real and potential risks and recommends very specific courses of action to address problems. We then help establish performance standards, monitor progress, and document risk assessment results with rankings that coal yards can retain to document safety and operational progress. We do this while balancing the lowest "Total Cost of Ownership" program. Q: Can Benetech help utilities lower forced outage rates? A: Yes. One of Benetech’s goals is to help utilities identify potential "hot spot" areas, such as transfer chute buildup, inadequate silo ventilation, dust concentrations, and excessive dust emissions, which can all lead to downtime or even disaster. We also develop and manufacture products that help eliminate these conditions by eliminating dust altogether. Our InteliFlo® dustless transfer system features the exclusive J-Glide® smooth loading technology that prevents dust rather than just passively controlling it. Q: Can Benetech help Eastern utilities looking to convert from bituminous to PRB coal? A: Yes. There are many factors to consider when converting to PRB coal, including: managing the different combustion properties; best-practice methods for transferring the coal; implementing the right equipment to control dust; and training coal yard operators to run and manage each step of the process. We serve as the coal yard’s transition consultant to help identify all necessary steps, and to formalize documentation and procedures during the conversion. Plant Professionals(P2), a division of Benetech, has more than 880+ combined years of PRB coal handling and combustion experience as well as 500 million tons of coal handling experience. Q: Will there be any consideration from the government for utilities that meet or exceed safety and clean air regulations? A: Benetech is working to formalize acceptable risk index factors that would quantify a coal yards safety and environmental standings. Our hope is that in the near future government officials will agree that insurance rate concessions for optimal adherence to these standards is the best way to ensure compliance throughout the industry. Q: Is Benetech an industry leader? A: Benetech has grown to be the largest supplier to utilities that burn Powder River Basin Coal as a fuel source. Founded in 1983, Benetech has enjoyed long-standing relationships with many notable companies, such as Ameren, Texas Utilities, Chevron, Alcoa, The Southern Companies and Northern Indiana Public Service Company. We are committed to developing and helping our customers implement cutting edge programs that enhance their position in a competitive marketplace. |
